I received by BA in Fine Arts from UCLA, specializing in drawing and painting. Ever since I was young, I have been fascinated by animals, and have had the pleasure of living with numerous pets, from hamsters to horses. I have experience teaching horseback riding, dog obedience training, and visiting nursing homes with my therapy dog. A natural consequence of my love of both art and animals, is to combine the two in animal portraiture. Besides painting realistic portraits of all types of pets, I also specialize in painting horses, birds and wild animals.
I have owned and directed Montessori schools for over thirty years, and enjoy the challenge of painting engaging portraits of children. Vibrant watercolors completed in a realistic style are a specialty. I also create detailed portraits in pastels, pen and ink, and graphite. Happily for my subjects, I do not require sittings, and paint from clear and accurate photographs.
As a California native, I have painted on location "en plein air" in the gardens, beaches, and forests of this beautiful state. Please visit www.reneearts.com for samples of my artwork. There is also information on reasonable art classes for all ages. My students have ranged in age from 5 to 100! I especially delight in teaching total beginners, and watching them blossom as they discover their inner artist.
